Frequently ASK Questions

How exactly do automatic updates protect my network?

Before being packaged, most routers have their firmware updated at the factory. That implies they won’t be exposed to any more software updates during their stay at your house. This leaves your network open to threats that may not even exist when setting up your router. However, most customers are unaware that they may update their existing router’s security by downloading the latest version from the company’s website (let alone where to start).

The automatic pushing of updates by eero makes this a breeze. Because of this, you can be assured that your network is always equipped with the most recent and most secure software, features, and security patches. If you want to make the most of your time online, you should save time stressing over whether or not your security software is up to date. For additional information about what’s new in these releases, check out the release notes for the relevant software.

How do you protect your data?

Using Transport Layer Security, we protect the entire data exchange between eeros and the cloud (TLS). TLS, the successor to SSL, is a widely adopted security protocol that encrypts all communications between a user’s device and the server it connects to via the Internet, protecting the user’s privacy. It guarantees that no one may eavesdrop on or steal data while it’s being transferred between the server and the client.

Does Eero mesh use what security protocol?

When it comes to network security, eero only supports WPA2 PSK AES. Our backend services will only accept data sent to them by eeros; likewise, eeros will only transmit data to our services. This ensures that information is not compromised while in transit and provides additional protection.

We don’t want our users’ data compromised; hence eero doesn’t support the insecure WEP, WPA, or WPS protocols. Our genuine belief is that the security of your network should not be compromised, even if this means some incompatibility with older devices that only supports these protocols.

How does eero get its data?

When you set up an eero account or register a new eero, the eero app will ask for personal information such as your name, email address, and phone number. Data such as MAC addresses, IP addresses, and the sorts of connected devices are collected by eero devices. For the entire list, please refer to our privacy policy.

Does the loss of eero Plus compromise the safety of my network?

While we will always take measures to keep your eero network secure, eero Plus gives you even more control over how your home network is protected, ensuring that all of your gadgets and your family’s data are safe.

If you already have an eero network, you do not need eero Plus to keep receiving our security updates. Even without eero Plus, eeros are built with your security in mind. Eero stands out from the crowd because we’ve dedicated a lot of time and energy to ensuring the security of your network, from designing and developing our hardware and software to employing a team of security experts. We do regular tests on eero networks and invite the security research community to help us find vulnerabilities.

When you go online, your security concerns extend far beyond the confines of any single network. Malware and other harmful content can be accessed by our computers, phones, and other devices at any moment. Eero Plus keeps your network’s devices safe and alert. As a result, you and anybody else on your network will be protected from malicious software and inappropriate material at home.
